The ZeitWerkStadt is an interactive museum in Frankenberg/Saxony focusing on significant inventions and achievements from Saxony. The Time Cube uses an immersive 360-degree projection. A digital journey through time explores the history of the vehicle industry, printing, carpet weaving, and cigar manufacturing in Frankenberg. The ZeitWerkStadt is also designed as a participatory family attraction.
The present-day St. Aegidien Church was built in 17 months and consecrated on October 29, 1741. The Sculpture Trail runs through the old town as an art tour featuring 20 works that commemorate historical events and significant figures from the city.
The Bleiberg Mining Town shows how the inhabitants of a medieval mining settlement lived and worked in the 13th and 14th centuries. One of the main attractions of the Bleiberg Mining Town is a complex of houses built on the basis of archaeological excavations at Treppenhauer. There are also medieval activities related to crafts and food, including bread baking, mead, herbal tea, and cooking over an open fire.
Nature and Trails
The Forest Adventure Trail is a 4-kilometer circular route on easy-to-walk forest paths; the route takes about two hours. The Harrasfelsen–Mittweida section of the Zschopautal Trail is part of Frankenberg’s trail network and follows the Zschopau through a medieval mining area.
The section of the Sachsenburg–Hainichen Trail up to the turnoff to Rossauer Wald is also part of Frankenberg’s trail network and is marked in red. Bus route 675 connects Frankenberg/Sa. or Mittweida with Sachsenburg/Gh Reinhardt for the Sachsenburg–Hainichen route.
Getting Around Locally
The Tourist Information Office at Markt 14 provides visitors with information about Frankenberg’s tourist attractions and services. Frankenberg has rail connections on the Hainichen–Chemnitz route and road connections via the B180, B169, and A4 motorway.
