Culture and History

Zschepplin has a historic castle complex with preserved sections, including a west wing partly dating from 1500. Around 1545, the complex was expanded into a four-winged structure; it is described as a combination of elements from the Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical periods.

The church in Zschepplin dates back to around 1300–1400. It is built of fired bricks, has large, bright windows and a remarkable net vault. Before the Reformation, Zschepplin was a pilgrimage destination.

Zschepplin is characterised by agricultural land and the Mulde floodplains. The floodplains contain remnants of floodplain forest as well as former river channels and oxbow lakes of the Mulde.
