Culture and History

The Dutch windmill was built around 1870. The five-storey structure has been open to the public since 2002, remains powered by wind and can still grind grain. The tank monument commemorates the meeting of Soviet and US armies in April 1945.

The Großtreben ring kiln was built in 1865, operated until 1971 and, at the end of its operating life, produced up to 1.6 million bricks per year. It is described as the oldest ring kiln in the world for firing bricks.

The Heilandskirche serves as a meeting place for a variety of activities. Rooms in the adjacent parish house offer overnight accommodation to pilgrims on the Luther Trail and the Way of St. James. Rosenfeld Church was rebuilt from 1630 onwards on surviving walls after the previous church burned down to its foundations in 1629. The Falkenstruth burial mounds are a Bronze Age burial site.

The Graditz complex includes a palace building and a stud farm park, which was created as part of an extension planned by Pöppelmann in 1721. The nearby Graditz State Stud is associated with horse breeding documented since 1630 and preserves and conveys its cultural heritage through stud farm shows, guided tours and cultural events.

Nature and Family Experiences

Beilrode Park has around three hectares of green space to explore and contains a small animal enclosure with fallow deer and goats. Zwethau Manor Park is a landscaped park on the site of a former manor and invites visitors to enjoy a relaxing stroll. Its trees and plants are labelled and explained; there is also a playground designed especially for families.

The World of Reptiles offers a family experience centred around the diverse world of reptiles. At the Zwethau Book Tower, travellers can take a book or leave behind one they have read; it serves as a book exchange point.

Trails and Regional Places

The section of the Elbe Cycle Route east of the Elbe runs from Prettin in Saxony-Anhalt to Mühlberg in Brandenburg. In Ostelbien, numerous small manor estates, palaces and mansions invite visitors to explore; some have been restored, while others have the romantic patina of decay.

Seasonal Discovery

In 2018, the snowdrop garden in Döbrichau comprised more than 120 varieties and around 10,000 blooms. From January to March, the garden attracted visitors every year.
