Rochlitz: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Rochlitz Castle rises above the Zwickauer Mulde on a steep spur of Rochlitzer Berg. Its two distinctive towers, locally known as Lichte Jupe and Finstre Jupe, are characteristic features. Culture

St. Kunigunde's Church is a late Gothic hall church; its choir is described as unique in Saxon Late Gothic architecture. Visits are possible by prior arrangement. The 1513 carved altar has a monumental, finely detailed structure. Its two terracotta figures of Kunigunde and Emperor Henry II are among the oldest clay figures in Saxony.

At the castle, visitors can explore preserved late medieval rooms, including the castle kitchen, passageways, dungeons and torture chamber. St. Peter's Church is described as Rochlitz's oldest church. It was first mentioned in 1186; its late Gothic choir was begun in 1470, and its almost square nave was completed in 1499.

Nature

The 27-metre-high Friedrich August Tower stands on Rochlitzer Berg. It is built entirely from local red porphyry tuff and offers a wide panorama in clear conditions.

The Porphyry Educational Trail is a 2.7-kilometre circular route with 15 stations. They explain the origins and mining history of Rochlitz porphyry tuff, as well as the history of stone masonry. Porphyrhaus is the starting point for geotourism programmes on Rochlitzer Berg and also serves as an exhibition and event venue, as well as a green classroom.

Trails

Rochlitz offers opportunities for hiking and cycling along the Zwickauer Mulde, through wooded areas and past historic buildings. The Muldental Hiking Trail follows the Zwickauer Mulde and includes an approximately 11-kilometre section from Rochlitz to Colditz, which begins at Rochlitz Market Square.
