Augustusburg Palace was built between 1568 and 1572/73 as a hunting lodge and pleasure palace. The palace museum features exhibitions on hunting fauna, ornithology, hunting history, and the history of the palace. The Venus Hall contains 16th-century murals described as unique in the German-speaking world. The palace church contains a religious painting by Lucas Cranach the Younger, described as being of exceptional historical significance for Saxony and beyond.
St. Petri Town Church forms a striking silhouette together with the palace, dates back to a consecration in 1444, and continues to be a venue for musical events. Around Markt and Pfarrgasse, plaques on selected buildings explain their history, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries.

Getting Around
The Augustusburg funicular connects Augustusburg with Erdmannsdorf. The journey takes approximately eight minutes, covers a distance of 1,239.8 metres, and overcomes an elevation difference of 168.06 metres. Bicycles can be taken on the Augustusburg funicular.
Erdmannsdorf and Hennersdorf each have a railway connection on the Zschopau Valley Railway.

A circular route leads through Augustusburg's historic old town and the Kurfürstin-Anna Garden, passing Augustusburg Palace, the town church, Lotterhof, and the funicular. The Zschopau Valley Trail approaches Augustusburg on a serpentine ascent, passing Augustusburg Palace. From Augustusburg, it continues towards Erdmannsdorf either by funicular or on foot along the railway line.
