Crinitzberg: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Crinitzberg lies in the southern part of the Kirchberg Granite Landscape protected area. The municipality combines protected moorland, distinctive granite formations, historic village structures, and signposted paths. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Crinitzberg can then continue searching for accommodation.

The Obercrinitz mineral spring was discovered in 1935 and was historically associated with local tourism. The water is currently contaminated and cannot be used for therapeutic purposes. Following its reconstruction, the spring was presented to the public again in 1999.

Nature and Landscape

The Moosheide Obercrinitz nature reserve covers approximately 62 hectares and includes Obercrinitz and Bärenwalde within Crinitzberg. Moosheide is a raised bog largely shaped by peat cuttings, located at an elevation of 490 to 500 meters above sea level, and is one of the lowest raised bogs in the Ore Mountains.

The landscape includes typical bog and marsh plants. Moosheide is also protected as a forest area that serves as a water reservoir and habitat for protected plant communities.

Culture and Village Character

Bärenwalde and Obercrinitz are described as double-row forest-strip villages on both sides of the Rödelbach and Crinitzbach waterways. Bärenwalde is home to a church described as Saxony’s second-largest village church. It was built in 1733, received its 50-meter-high tower in 1775, and has a protected organ of artistic value. During the Christmas season, the Bornkinnel is displayed on the church altar.

The baptismal stone is an irregularly rounded granite block with a diameter of approximately 2 to 2.5 meters. It has a large bowl and five seat-like depressions and is protected as a historic monument. A summer forest church service is held at the baptismal stone every year.

Hiking

Well-maintained and signposted paths lead to scenic spots within the municipality. The Bärenwalde circular hiking trail is 11 kilometers long and runs from the Gasthof Eisenbahn stop via the mineral spring to Moosheide. It passes the beech tree natural monument with its stone plaque and a panoramic viewpoint on a hill. The route also includes a wildlife enclosure, a shelter, and wooden figures of a locomotive and a crocodile.

The Obercrinitz–Amselgrund–Giegengrün–Lauterhofen–Obercrinitz route is 8.5 kilometers long and starts at the Obercrinitz bus stop. Hikers who do not want a longer hike can return via Giegengrün or Lauterhofen.

Another 7-kilometer route leads from Obercrinitz via Alte Wildenauer Straße and the Sweden spruce back to Obercrinitz. It reaches the Sweden spruce natural monument and passes by biotopes.

Cycling

The Rödelbach Brush Route is a 32.21-kilometer bike tour from Wilkau-Haßlau to the Eibenstock Reservoir and passes through Crinitzberg. The route runs entirely along public roads. After leaving the Zwickau district, it leads into the Ore Mountains brush-making region and connects with the Saxon Highlands long-distance cycle route.
