Culture and History

In the historic Peterkeller winery, the local history museum presents the history of the town and winegrowing, as well as changing special exhibitions. The estate complex dates back to 1622, while the half-timbered main building of the museum dates from 1794 and displays more than 600 historic objects. The historic festival hall of the Zentralgasthof is part of the ensemble of cultural landmarks at Kirchplatz.

Winegrowing and Landscape

The village pond is integrated into a park next to the uncovered Gabenreichbach stream. Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Blanc, Traminer, Pinot Noir, and Dornfelder grapes grow on the terraces of the Ratsweinberg vineyard. Around 25 hectares of vines are cultivated in Weinböhla. Wine was already being grown here in 1513; winegrowing benefited from the climatically favorable south-facing slopes.

Routes and Experiences

VELOCIUM offers historic bicycles to try out on an outdoor course. The paved pump track supports balance training in almost any weather. The “Around Weinböhla” cycle route is a moderately difficult circular route of approximately 29.95 kilometers. It connects the Zentralgasthof, St. Martin's Church, Peterkeller, Wartturm, König-Albert-Turm, Friedensturm, Wolfsdenkmal, Jungernbrücke, and Fuchsberg.

The Wartturm stands above the Ratsweinberg vineyard at 211 meters above sea level. From there, the view framed by vineyards extends across the Elbe Valley from Meißen to Radebeul; the Wartturm can be visited at any time of day. Signposted paths in Weinböhla lead to towers and vineyards, offering views from the Elbe Valley around Meißen to the Lusatian Mountains. Weinböhla has cycle paths with connections to the Elbe Cycle Route, and the Saxon Wine Trail runs through the town.

Connections

The start of the cycle route can be reached by regional trains RB 31, RE 15, RE 18, and RE 50, as well as by buses 411, 421, and 403. The seasonal excursion line M connects Meißen, Weinböhla, and Moritzburg and carries a bicycle trailer for up to 16 bicycles.
