Großpösna combines the 721-hectare Störmthaler See lake with natural and cultural attractions. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Großpösna can then continue their search for accommodation. Störmthaler See was created by flooding the southeastern part of the former Espenhain lignite open-cast mine.

Nature

Oberholz covers more than 600 hectares and is described as a retreat for plants and animals. A five-kilometre, easy circular nature trail with information boards about the local fauna and flora begins at Oberholz railway station in Großpösna.

By the Water

Swimming is possible at Störmthaler See, where four bathing areas are designated. A 23-kilometre, fully asphalted circular route around Störmthaler See is available for walking, cycling and skating. A wide range of water sports activities is possible on the lake. Boat rental includes kayaks, pedal boats, rowing boats and motorboats; guided canoe tours are also offered around Störmthaler See.

A lock connects Störmthaler See with neighbouring Markkleeberger See and enables recreational activities on both lakes. The harbour of Störmthaler See can be reached by S-Bahn to Markkleeberg station and then by bus 106.

Culture

VINETA on Störmthaler See symbolises the lost Magdeborn church and the villages displaced by the Espenhain lignite open-cast mine. Visitors can reach VINETA by ferry from the Vineta Bistro.

Güldengossa Manor was rebuilt as a late Baroque mansion in 1720 after the estate had already been more than 500 years old. Following the restoration of the manor house, park and orangery, events are held in its festival hall.
