Landscape

Arnsdorf lies on the western edge of the Königshain Hills. Buchholz has a palace park with old deciduous trees. West of Buchholz, a waterside walking path connects three ponds.

Culture and History

The church in Arnsdorf is a late Romanesque hall church founded in 1251. Its features include a painted wooden ceiling from the 16th century, a crucifix from the 15th century, and a Heinze organ from the 19th century. Arnsdorf is also home to a palace built in 1856. The former palace garden house is a two-storey Baroque building with a mansard roof and was restored in 2001.

Film screenings and other events take place at Landkino Arnsdorf in a former barn. East of the Arnsdorf church, the stump of a Dutch windmill has been preserved.

Paths and Churches

The parishes of Vierkirchen can be explored via developed roads, cycle paths, footpaths, and the Way of St. James. The Ecumenical Pilgrims' Way from Görlitz to Vacha passes through the parishes of Arnsdorf, Melaune, and Buchholz, which offer pilgrims' hostels all year round. The route covers 18.5 kilometres to Arnsdorf, followed by 4.5 kilometres to Melaune and another 4.5 kilometres to overnight accommodation in the reconstructed Old School.

The churches in Arnsdorf, Buchholz, Melaune, Tetta, Nieder Seifersdorf, Diehsa, and Jänkendorf are usually open from Easter to Eternity Sunday between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. The Arnsdorf vicarage is a roughly 200-year-old three-sided farmstead listed as a historic monument, and is used for pilgrims' accommodation and parish events.

Other Places

The present-day church in Melaune dates back to extensive renovations carried out in 1845. Behind the altar, an epitaph for Carl Gottlob von Nostitz from 1698 can be seen. The former Melaune vicarage houses a pilgrims' hostel, while the Youth Barn offers recreational activities for children and young people. Below Döbschütz, a former watermill is still operating as a grist mill.
