Pilgrimage
Rosenthal is a Marian pilgrimage site with several pilgrimages each year. At its centre is a limewood statue of the Virgin Mary dating from around 1480. The Marian Fountain is traditionally attributed with healing powers; the site belongs to the Association of Pilgrimage Sites of Central Europe. Culture
The cemetery in Ralbitz is known for its white wooden crosses. The parish church ad St. Catharinam was built in 1752; in 1754, Ralbitz became an independent parish. Zampern refers to a traditional custom of Lusatia in which gifts are collected for the carnival celebration.
The Easter Riders’ procession begins in Ralbitz and leads via Cunnewitz, Schönau, Sollschwitz and Saalau to Wittichenau. The tall tower and curved tower roof of the large pilgrimage church of Maria von der Linde make it a distinctive landmark visible from a great distance. Outdoor services are held at the Sühnungskapelle on special occasions; the chapel was built on the edge of the forest in 1833.
One route passes a field chapel dating from 1851 at the western edge of the village. A wayside prayer column dating from 1682 is described as the oldest of the remarkable prayer columns in Catholic Sorbian Lusatia.
Trails
Ralbitz-Rosenthal has five hiking trails through the flatlands, leading through local forests, meadows and fields. The hiking trail in Rosenthal is an easy 7.7-kilometre circular route marked with green dots. There is a picnic area at Steinteich where amphibians and birds can be observed. There are no restaurants along the route; the district therefore recommends bringing a picnic. The route passes Dreihäuser, which is stated to be the birthplace of the Sorbian writer Jurij Brězan. Along the Rosenthal hiking route, Landbäckerei Scholze offers fresh baked goods.
Tour 3 leads through Ralbitz, Cunnewitz, Schönau and Rosenthal. It can also be used as a cycling tour, although bicycles must be pushed along a short, uneven section of forest path. The tour connects to the KRABAT Cycle Path and the Sorbian Impressions Cycle Path.
Local
By prior arrangement, Bienenhof Regina offers visits to an educational trail with a guided tour and tasting. The farm showcases a beekeeping tradition that has been practised for more than eighty years.
Surroundings
The Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape in the wider surrounding region has many hiking trails and paved cycle paths in predominantly flat terrain. It is associated with Sorbian culture, the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, historic Bautzen and carp.
