Olbersdorf: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nature

Lake Olbersdorf is a post-mining landscape created from a former lignite open-cast mine. Following the 1999 State Horticultural Show, a beach and an adjacent campsite were established there. A five-kilometre shorter route around the lake is wheelchair accessible. The major sporting events hosted by Olbersdorf include the Zittau Mountains Run & Hiking Meeting and the O-See Challenge.

Culture

Olbersdorf has several attractions: the Uhrenhof, which preserves clocks from decommissioned factories and whose exhibition covers the complete production of electric clocks from the former GDR; the Hilger Coconut Weaving Mill, which produces durable products from coconut, sisal and hemp in a demonstration workshop; the Mill Trail, which marks at least 18 documented former waterwheel sites along the Goldbach with information boards; the sculpture park, featuring works in stone, wood and clay by artists from the surrounding area and neighbouring countries; and the steam railway educational trail, which explains the history of the Zittau narrow-gauge railway with information boards and pictures and extends from Zittau to the resorts of Jonsdorf and Oybin.

Getting Around

The 750 mm Zittau narrow-gauge railway runs through Olbersdorf towards the Zittau Mountains. At Bertsdorf station, it branches off towards Oybin and Jonsdorf, allowing visitors to watch two steam locomotives depart simultaneously.
