Oderwitz is home to three well-preserved post mills; there is also the still-functioning Berthold Mill, a former watermill that is powered by electricity. Two signposted mill trails showcase these special features: a 4-km route connects the Berndt Mill, the oldest of Oderwitz’s post mills, which was built at its present location in 1787, with the Birk Mill. A 5-km route leads via the Neumann Mill to the Berthold Mill. The two trails can be combined into an 8.7-km route; visits to the mills are possible by prior arrangement.

Culture

At the Otto Demonstration Bakery, baking in an original wood-fired oven is showcased in the half-timbered house of Otto Bakery in Oderwitz. Max Langer is described as the painter-poet of Upper Lusatia.

Nature

The 510-metre-high Spitzberg offers panoramic views across Upper Lusatia and Bohemia from its viewing rock. The viewing rock is also home to a recognised climbing area. Visitors can discover Oderwitz via the Upper Lusatian Mountain Trail and the Upper Lusatian Cycle Route from Zittau to Bayreuth. Oderwitz is also included in the 112-kilometre Upper Lusatian Umgebinde House Road, a circular route.

Leisure

The summer toboggan run in Oderwitz can be used in both summer and winter. Volksbad Oderwitz has separate areas for swimmers and non-swimmers, as well as a slide, a three-metre diving tower and a one-metre diving board. The Oderwitz Weather Cabinet provides an introduction to weather observation and forecasting through talks on weather.

Discoveries

The “Erfinderkiste” Experiment and Learning Workshop in Oderwitz offers more than 300 m² of play space. There, children explore the world through sight, hearing and touch and learn about the laws of nature in a playful way. Children’s birthday parties and group afternoons are also offered. In addition, Oderwitz has a digitally controlled model railway measuring 45 metres in length, which also includes a garden railway.
