Cycle routes

The Oberlausitz Railway Cycle Path follows an old railway line through the Cunewalde Valley and is part of a regional main route connecting the Spree Cycle Path with the Saxon City Route: from Großpostwitz/Eulowitz district via Cunewalde to Löbau. The Cosul Valley is a landscape around Großpostwitz that can be explored by bicycle.

Hiking and water

The Große Drohmberg circular route with the Cosul Valley starts at the car park in the centre of Großpostwitz. The route is 8 km long, with a walking time of around 2 hours 20 minutes; both the ascent and descent involve 280 metres of elevation gain. It leads along a stream through a spruce forest and offers a wide view over Bautzen. Along the Panorama Trail section, the view extends far across the Upper Lusatian Highlands.

The dam at Schnabelmühle, the Großpostwitz bridge, the dam at Althainitz and the Ontex cable bridge are named as fishing spots.

Culture and history

The historic Kunstmühle Schnabel mill complex on the Spree comprises a main building from 1823 with a mansard roof and listed door and window surrounds, as well as a storage building from 1930. Large parts of the original roof structure, the staircases and the intermediate floors have been preserved; the mill later received a turbine extension.

The Protestant Church at Hauptstraße 1 is a sight in Großpostwitz. Seven Wenden Kings are located on the Königsweg on the Drohmberg. They are associated with the legend of the seven buried Wenden Kings, which is told in Sorbian and German.
