Tannenberg: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

A developed hiking trail behind the Tannenberg natural swimming pool leads into the Lohenbach Valley. There is a nature reserve with nutrient-poor meadows where wild orchids and arnica grow; it also features a barefoot wading pool and a shelter with a table and benches. Nature

On the southern side of Tannenberg, the field structure of the forest-strip village is still visible; hedges and field margins integrate the settlement into the landscape. From the Lohenbach Valley, signs point to the Buttersteig trail and the Kleiner Fuchsstein viewpoint.

The Tannenberg natural swimming pool comprises approximately 10,000 square metres of sunbathing lawn and approximately 3,000 square metres of water. It also has a volleyball facility and a playground.

Culture

Tannenberg’s St. Christopher Church contains an altar carved in 1521 and attributed to the school of Christoph Walther, a 16th-century sandstone baptismal font, historic children’s gravestones, and a sandstone relief epitaph from 1592.

The Hutzenhäusel is described as a house originally inhabited by miners and built according to forms from the 16th and 17th centuries; it is protected as a cultural monument. Following its reconstruction, it retains distinctive architectural features. The building contains a communal room for approximately 30 people, an original reconstructed wooden staircase, and a functional Ore Mountains kitchen stove. The outdoor area provides space for relaxing and barbecuing outdoors.

Tannenberg’s village pyramid is designed as a miners’ hut and depicts an Ore Mountains parlour, a miner, a hunter, and a forest man. The Paßklausenturm was part of an old moated castle complex that may date from the 12th century. It is considered one of the best-preserved monuments of its kind in the Ore Mountains. On the Tannenberg section of the Zschopau Valley Trail, the tower is mentioned as a sight in connection with a medieval moated castle.

The former manor house now accommodates a café and rooms used by local historians.

Routes

Tannenberg is connected to the B 95 by the S 260 and lies on the European long-distance hiking trail from Eisenach to Budapest as well as on the Silver Road holiday route. The Zschopau Valley Trail includes an 8-kilometre stage from Tannenberg to Thermalbad Wiesenbad.
