Nature and Trails
Near Sehmatal are the Neudorf ski lift on the Paulusberg, the Feuerturm, the Kalkberg and the Katzenstein. Cranzahl railway station is the terminus of the Erzgebirgsbahn from Chemnitz and at the same time the starting point of the narrow-gauge Fichtelbergbahn railway towards the mountain spa resort area.
The 18.8-kilometre Bimmelbahn adventure trail offers a special combination of hiking trail and railway. The challenging hiking route runs mostly parallel to the Fichtelbergbahn between Cranzahl and Kurort Oberwiesenthal and can be combined with a return journey by steam train.
Culture
In Neudorf, the “Zum Weihrichkarzl” demonstration workshop makes traditional incense cones by hand. Near Sehmatal are also Cranzahl with the Ascension Church and Bärenstein with the Church of the Redeemer.
The surrounding area of Sehmatal includes Annaberg-Buchholz, the former Franciscan monastery, and Annaberg-Buchholz, St. Anne’s Church.
