Hohndorf: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
The 18-kilometre Steinkohlenweg is a circular hiking trail spanning several municipalities, passing through Oelsnitz/Erzgebirge, Hohndorf, Gersdorf and Lugau. It is marked throughout with 80 signs. A brochure about the Steinkohlenweg presents six tour suggestions with maps.
History
The Ore Mountain Mining Region/Krušnohoří has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since July 2019. In Hohndorf, a digital historical tour documents the stories of historic farmsteads, traditional inns and former craft businesses. Historical images and documents, as well as an interactive map, provide access to the buildings in the village.
The “Historic Hohndorf” tour links historically significant places and buildings in the municipality, including the town hall, the church, the Rappelkiste kindergarten and the Glück-Auf School.
Trails
The Hohndorf section of the mining educational trail, which comprises 43 stations, includes Vereinigtfeld Shaft I, Vereinigtfeld Shaft III, Helene Shaft, Ida Shaft and Bergmannsplatz.
The Hohndorf circular hiking trail is classified as moderately difficult and runs along paved paths and roads. It starts and ends at the car park of the “Walderholung” country hotel and restaurant at Fleischerberg 21.
The trail reaches the Waldeck viewpoint, offering views across lower Hohndorf and the residential area by Lichtenstein Forest. It passes the completely overgrown spoil heap of the Vereinigtfeld shafts and heads towards the former Vereinigtfeld Shaft, passing its spoil heap.
Landscape
At an elevation of 460 metres above sea level, the circular hiking trail offers panoramic views of the mining village of Hohndorf from the area of the former Vereinigtfeld shafts. It also leads to Knappenweg, a former miners’ settlement.
Getting Around
Bus routes 117 and 139 serve the Hohndorf Wartehalle stop on the Hohndorf circular hiking trail. Railway line 523 serves the Hohndorf Mitte stop on the Hohndorf circular hiking trail.
The Schnitzerheim features a mechanical local-history display; a model of Vereinigtfeld Shaft I’s headframe is also exhibited there.
