Großolbersdorf: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture and History

Großolbersdorf presents its history at specific locations. The Sättlerhaus is a listed building with a knitting room from the mid-19th century, a Christmas room, a goat stable and an outhouse. At Stülpnerberg, 100 carved figures in 27 scenes depict the life and work of Karl Stülpner.

The Karl Stülpner Circular Trail, marked in white-green-white, leads from Scharfenstein through Großolbersdorf and back. It passes the Sättlerhaus and Karl Stülpner’s grave in Großolbersdorf and goes past the Schnitzerheim with Stülpnerberg on Warmbadstraße. Karl Stülpner’s final resting place is located in the Großolbersdorf cemetery.

The Sättlerhaus is listed as open on Saturdays and Sundays from April to October. Guided tours outside opening hours are possible by arrangement. Mining is also part of the local history: the St. Gideon adit was started in 1552 to drain the Lauta mining area. Around 40 metres of the adit can be explored on foot; visits are possible by appointment or on Open Monument Day in September.

Nature and Hiking

Großolbersdorf is connected to the Oberes Zschopautal Landscape Conservation Area, a place for hiking and exploring. The Großolbersdorf Circular Trail is a 12.27-kilometre hiking trail classified as difficult. It starts and ends at the car park by the town hall in Großolbersdorf, offers views across the low mountain landscape and uses the white-yellow-white, white-red-white and white-green-white markings.

Cycling Routes and Landscape

The “Mountains and Forests” route is a 24.13-kilometre circular cycling route of medium difficulty with a low fitness requirement. It runs mostly through wooded terrain. At the Drei-Brüder-Höhe viewpoint, the route offers a panoramic view towards the ridge heights.

The route has bus and rail connections via Scharfenstein railway station, which is listed as 3 km away. Bus route 233 also runs from Zschopau to Großolbersdorf.
