Culture

Geyer's Tower Museum is housed in a 42-metre-high medieval defensive and watchtower. It presents the history of mining and the town, local minerals, a functional model of Geyersberg, an 18th-century passementerie room, historic bells, a pewterware collection and a room dedicated to local history spread across more than seven floors.

The Lotterhof is a Renaissance architectural monument built in 1566 by the Electoral master builder Hieronymus Lotter; its exterior can be viewed year-round. The Schnitzerheim features 11 mechanical local and Christmas mining scenes alongside wood carvings and Christmas pyramids.

Geyer's Entomological Museum displays more than 400 insect species, including fauna from rainforests in particular. The Geyer locomotive shed houses a steam locomotive, passenger and luggage carriages, a home signal and a water crane from the former narrow-gauge railway.

Nature

The Binge Geyer is a mining-collapse crater 200 to 250 metres wide and 50 to 60 metres deep, created by collapses in 1704 and 1803. An educational trail provides information about the geology as well as rare plants and animals.

The Greifensteine between Geyer and Ehrenfriedersdorf can be reached from Geyer on foot or by bicycle. They consist of seven weathered granite crags formed from the remains of an intrusive granite sheet. The Greifensteine also include a natural open-air stage used by the Eduard von Winterstein Theatre from June to August.

Greifenbach Reservoir Pond is located in the Greifensteine landscape conservation area. Visitors can swim, surf and sail there, as well as use slides and play facilities. Boat hire, mountain bike and e-bike hire, an adventure playground, minigolf, volleyball and table tennis are also available.

Activities

The Greifensteine leisure pool at the foot of the Greifensteine features eight slides, a wave pool, a children's pool, an outdoor swimming pool, whirlpools and sauna and wellness areas. The Greifensteine Adventure Climbing Forest has 11 climbing courses up to 13 metres high, including the “Flying Stülpner” attraction crossing the lake.

For winter sports, Geyer offers 50 kilometres of machine-groomed cross-country ski trails through the Geyer Forest. Their terrain is predominantly easy; they are suitable for both classic and skating techniques. Signposted winter hiking trails connect the town with the Greifenbach Valley and Greifenbach Reservoir Pond.

The Panorama Trail is an approximately 11-kilometre circular hiking trail with scenic views. A local 10-kilometre hike leads through fields, meadows and forests and features song stones, which are placed at intervals for singing and mainly bear lyrics by Anton Günther.
