Culture and History
Anyone looking to rent a holiday apartment and considering Griesen as a destination will find a well-preserved village with a distinctive historic character. Griesen is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Kingdom and is protected as a historic village area. The well-preserved linear village features original buildings dating from the 16th to the early 20th century. Particularly noteworthy are the farm complexes in the east and the historic street layout.
Griesen’s historic settlement structure comprises large former farms along the village street as well as a single-row rear section with smaller houses for cottagers and day laborers. This arrangement still reveals the village’s former social hierarchy.
The Louisium and Waldersee Palace are located in the vicinity of Griesen. Further afield in the region are the Luther House in Wittenberg and Libehna Palace.

History and Tradition
Drehberg between Griesen and Vockerode was planned as a burial site for Prince Franz. The plan included a burial mound, a pantheon-like building on eight Doric columns, a lantern, and two circular walls. The tradition of the Drehberg Festival has existed since 1992.
