Plötzkau: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Plötzkau is known for its castle history and paths along the Saale. When looking for a holiday apartment to rent in Plötzkau, these two sides of the town stand side by side.

Culture

Plötzkau Castle is described as a landmark rising above the Saale floodplain. From 1566 onward, the castle was converted from a medieval fortress into a Renaissance residential castle. Its tower was raised by two storeys to a height of 37 metres.

The castle houses a museum spread across several rooms and the tower, covering various topics. The tower offers views across the Lower Saale Valley Nature Park.

Nature

The approximately two-kilometre-long Plötzkau Floodplain Forest nature trail follows the Saale. Three large information panels explain the area's animal and plant life. The signposted path runs along a bend in the Saale below Plötzkau Castle.

The Plötzkau Floodplain Forest circular hiking trail is six kilometres long, starts at Plötzkau Castle and leads back to the castle. There are three places to sit along the route, including a covered rest area at the Lesewitzer Laube fishing lake.

Below Plötzkau Castle, a hikers' car park provides access to the path and the floodplain forest. The nature trail is promoted as suitable for exploring by bicycle.
