Nienburg (Saale): Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The monastery church in Nienburg is one of the major Gothic hall churches in Anhalt. It is also a stop on the Romanesque Road, is jointly used by the Protestant and Catholic congregations in Nienburg, and dates back to the 11th century.

Culture

A special feature of the church is the sandstone column depicting the months. It shows the sequence of agricultural work throughout the year and is also known as an Easter candle holder. Nienburg is also a meeting point for seven of the state's cultural routes.

The town's location on the Saale and Bode rivers supported its importance as a shipping town in the early 19th century. Visits to the interior of the monastery church must be arranged in advance for groups and individuals.

Nature

Nienburg is located within the Lower Saale Valley Nature Park. The town stands on a limestone rock promontory, and the Bode and Saale rivers meet near Nienburg.

A cycling trip on the Saale Cycle Path can cover 68 kilometres through the nature park, passing through forests, along flowing waters and through dry habitats.

Getting Around

The Saale Cycle Path runs through Nienburg and connects the town with the tranquil river landscape of the lower Saale. The section in the Salzland district is described as relatively family-friendly; many stretches are paved and have newly installed signs. Stage 9a of the Saale Cycle Path runs through Nienburg between Bernburg and the mouth of the Saale.

The Bode Cycle Path reaches Nienburg at the point where the Bode flows into the Saale.

Nienburg can be reached via the Staßfurt exit of the A14, the B6n, the B185 or the B71.
