Nature and Landscape
After the open-cast mines were closed, four lakes were created in the Braunsbedra landscape through recultivation and renaturalisation. Geiseltalsee features habitats ranging from marshy to extremely dry areas and from wooded to sandy terrain.
Paths and Tours
A day trip by bicycle circumnavigates the entire Geiseltalsee. The former mining lakes around Braunsbedra have well-developed cycle paths. On a peninsula, a cycle path leads through a nature reserve where visitors can observe rare animals.
From the Braunsbedra Visitor Centre, visitors can set off in either direction. On the side of the lake opposite the town of Braunsbedra are the Mühlenwanderweg trail and nature trails. The Geiseltalexpress is a narrow-gauge train without rails that circumnavigates the shore of Geiseltalsee from Pfännerhall.
The MS Geiseltalsee passenger ship departs from Braunsbedra Marina on two routes. At the lakeside pier, the Braunsbedra Tourist Information Office provides information about Braunsbedra, Geiseltalsee, events and excursions.
Culture and History
The “Fundort Pfännerhall / Diorama Waldelefant” exhibition can be viewed at Pfännerhall. There is also an exhibition about the transoceanic ABORA expedition.
A designated attraction in Braunsbedra is the Pfännerhall Machinery Hall. Among Braunsbedra’s designated attractions is also a castle with a castle park and castle pond. At Hauptstraße 19, a memorial stone and façade art commemorate Michael Kaßler.
