Plattensee Campsite has a bathing lake and is located in the Dannigkow recreational area next to the Middle Elbe Landscape Protection Area, the Romanesque Road and the R2 Elbe Cycle Route. Vogelsang is situated in a quiet wooded area that invites guests to go for walks.
Culture and History
Gommern’s moated castle combines a historic castle complex with a restaurant, its own brewery, a hotel operation, a newly designed courtyard, medieval-style feasts and castle festivals; there is also a wedding ceremony room.
Within the municipality of Gommern, St. Stephen’s Church is located in Vehlitz. It features a late Romanesque style associated with a construction period around 1150; inside there is a late Gothic three-winged carved altar.
Dornburg Palace was built from 1751 to 1758 as a widow’s residence for Princess Johanna Elisabeth. The R2 cycle route runs directly through the river floodplain meadows in Dornburg. The site of Leitzkau Palace Church dates back to a Premonstratensian monastery founded in 1138/39.

A 218-kilometre cycle network around Gommern is signposted to points of interest. Bridge, church and castle tours around Gommern can be undertaken independently or with a guide. These cycling tours are approximately 25 to 35 kilometres long and take five hours.
Gommern lies near the Elbe Cycle Route amid pine and mixed forests, in a lake landscape and along the Romanesque Road.
