Genthin Water Tower is a technical monument and has an observation platform offering panoramic views over the town and surrounding area.
Culture and History
St. Trinity Church was built from 1707 to 1722 according to plans by Georg Preußer from Magdeburg. It is a large three-aisled hall church with notable interior furnishings.
The church in Altenplathow in Genthin is a stop on the Romanesque Route. When the former Altenplathow church was demolished in 1904, a figurative gravestone of Hermann von Plote was found, which is described as the oldest surviving example in the Elbe-Havel region.
The Jerichower Land District Museum is located in an Art Nouveau villa near Genthin railway station, presents regional historical collections, and has its visitor address at Mützelstraße 22 in Genthin. It showcases regional history, with a focus on prehistory and early history, crafts, navigation, and clothing. The museum garden contains a so-called rune stone, an eight-metre-long dugout canoe, and old Prussian post mile markers.
Genthin's Detergent Museum documents the history of detergent production from 1921 to 2009, including the development from Persil to Spee. Registration via the tourist information office is required for guided visits because the museum is not open continuously.
Water
Genthin's sports harbour has an information point, showers, toilets, and washing facilities. It has lock connections to Zerben, Parey, and Wusterwitz. For boaters arriving from the direction of Brandenburg, Genthin is the first sports harbour in Saxony-Anhalt.
Getting Around
Genthin offers six circular hiking trails. They begin at Genthin railway station in the station forecourt. Circular Hiking Trail 1 is approximately six kilometres long, passes Genthin Water Tower, and then follows the Elbe-Havel Canal.
