Culture and History

The Wolmirstedt Museum presents a permanent exhibition on the history of Wolmirstedt. It is housed in a reconstructed rubble-stone barn dating from 1846, which forms part of a historic ensemble on the site of a medieval castle complex. The exhibition includes three historic workshops: a wheelwright’s workshop, a blacksmith’s workshop, and a saddlery.

A visit to the museum can be continued in the grounds of the Schlossdomäne estate. Since 2004, the museum has also offered evening tours through historic Wolmirstedt. The town’s ecclesiastical architectural history includes St. Catherine’s Church, built in the neo-Gothic style in 1876/77. It stands on the site of a Cistercian convent church that was demolished between 1870 and 1875. The castle chapel, built in 1480 in the Brick Gothic style, can be viewed from the inside.

Nature

East of Wolmirstedt, the Ohre lowlands feature a natural, meandering river course. In this eastern area, the Ohre lowlands also include the Rogätzer Hang-Ohremündung nature reserve. The Wolmirstedt Museum has a natural history exhibition on the Ohre lowlands and the Restauwald – Küchenhorn.

Cycle Paths

The Aller-Elbe Cycle Path runs through Wolmirstedt. The Elbe-Ohre Cycle Path can be accessed at Wolmirstedt railway station when arriving by train. The Elbe-Ohre Cycle Path is also described as a route that begins at the town hall in Wolmirstedt.
