Colbitz: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
In the oldest part of the village, Colbitz’s museum farm is located in a historic four-sided farmstead. It presents collections on agriculture, household life, crafts, forestry, hunting, and regional natural history. The museum farm also includes the permanent exhibition “Owl and Man,” featuring habitat dioramas of native owls and birds of prey, as well as an exhibition about the scholar Johann Heinrich Schulze, who was born in Colbitz.
Nature
Colbitz lies on the southeastern edge of the Colbitz-Letzlingen Heath. The Colbitz Linden Forest covers almost 200 hectares and is described as Central Europe’s largest contiguous lime tree forest. It is a natural mixed deciduous forest consisting of small-leaved lime, sessile oak, hornbeam, and birch. The Colbitz Linden Forest includes 188 hectares of protected land, including 28 hectares preserved as a strictly protected, near-natural research area.
There are two signposted circular hiking trails of approximately 1.5 km and 4 km in the Colbitz Linden Forest protected area. Information boards explain the history of the area as well as its plants and animals, while benches provide places to rest. Guided hikes in the Colbitz Linden Forest are available.
