The Saarland Mining Museum Bexbach is located in the Hindenburg Tower and combines hands-on mining history with a large underground demonstration mine showing mining techniques from different eras. The museum was founded in 1934. Visitors can see original exhibits on five floors of the museum tower. The underground facility was significantly expanded in 1957 and 1986.

The Bexbach Cultural Railway Station is also part of the town’s history: Its ensemble is listed in the heritage register of the Saarpfalz District. The railway station was inaugurated on 25 August 1849 as a border and interchange station with Prussia.

Nature

Monte Barbara is a greened mining spoil heap from Bexbach’s mining era. An eight-metre-high statue of Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners, stands on Monte Barbara. The Monte Barbara Trail includes an app-based audio tour about the lives and work of former miners.

The Höcherberg mining trails use a shared marking system with trail logos and signposts. The network comprises four day hikes and a spoil-heap loop that leads through meadows and forests to mining relics in Bexbach. The Höcherberg region participates in the “Wanderbares Deutschland” quality initiative.

Getting Around

Blumengarten Bexbach has a playground for families with children. Bexbach also offers a motorhome park with level pitches, nearby marked hiking and cycling trails, walking access to the town centre, as well as toilets and supply and disposal facilities.
