Wallerfangen: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Wallerfangen is a destination for travelers looking to rent a holiday apartment. Wallerfangen and the Saargau offer visitors a landscape featuring forests, extensive orchards, rural villages, and distinctive red sandstone and shell limestone formations.

Culture and History

Haus Saargau is one of the few preserved Lorraine farmhouses in Saarland. As a rural museum, Haus Saargau illustrates historic rural life through furnishings from the 18th century, agricultural buildings, and a traditional kitchen garden.

Wallerfangen’s industrial history includes a ceramics manufactory founded in 1791 in what was then the French town of Vaudrevange. Limberg was a princely seat during the Hallstatt period; ramparts and ditches dating from the 6th or 7th century have been preserved.

Guided tours of the Emilianus tunnel in the St. Barbara district lead through an untouched mine from Roman times where azurite was mined. The Upper Emilianus Tunnel is listed as accessible to registered visitor groups.

Next to the entrance to the Hansenberg mine, a Latin inscription identifies Emilianus as the owner of the mine. This inscription is described as the only surviving Latin inscription of its kind north of the Alps.

The temple complex at Sudelfels is freely accessible; a path leads to it.

Landscape

The Saargau around Wallerfangen comprises broad fields and meadows, orchards, forests with red sandstone heights, deep gorges, and waterways.

One hiking trail is described as following a route that passes old vineyard walls before crossing a road.
