Neunkirchen Zoo presents almost 600 animals from more than 120 species across 21 hectares and is located in a wooded area near the city centre. From the city centre or Neunkirchen Saar main station, the zoo can be reached by bus routes 312 and 302.

The Bird Educational Trail is an easy, accessible year-round path through mixed woodland, with information boards about native birds and trees. The Zoo Trail is a varied route through mixed woodland featuring rock formations, a biotope, a bird sanctuary grove, historic monuments and a pond area.

Hiking

The Neunkirchen Industrial Heritage Trail at a Glance is an approximately two-kilometre-long, accessible and family-friendly circular route through the historic “Altes HüttenAreal” site. The Kasbruchtal Historical Trail leads through the Kasbruchtal nature reserve and branches off to Gallo-Roman archaeological sites. Attractions listed along this trail include a Roman-era quarry, the Opfersteinbruch quarry, Jungfernstiege/Jungferntrapp and rock tombs.

The Neunkirchen Circular Hiking Trail is approximately 50 kilometres long and follows valleys and streams through the hilly landscape around Neunkirchen.

Culture and History

The Neunkirchen Municipal Gallery presents four to six changing exhibitions of contemporary art each year.

The “Altes HüttenAreal” site showcases Neunkirchen’s industrial culture and history through the Industrial Heritage Trail, a listed water tower, the Stumm Riding Hall and the Neue Gebläsehalle; concerts and music productions are listed for the Neue Gebläsehalle. In Neunkirchen, guided tours of the Industrial Heritage Trail are available in classic, technical, culinary, audio-supported and costume formats.

Cycling

The Neunkirchen City Loop follows the Blies and continues through the Kasbruchtal valley.

The Blies Terraces put the Blies in the spotlight and benefit the city’s visitors.
