Culture and History
The restored Old Beckingen Railway Station houses the municipality’s tourist information office and the information centre for the Wolferskopf nature reserve.
The SaarGarten Beckingen also serves as a sculpture park. At the entrance stands the sculpture “Dreiländereck” by the Lorraine artist Toun.
At the Historic Düppenweiler Copper Mine, visitors can independently learn about the copper works and ore processing in the 18th century at a multimedia terminal. Guided tours include the underground and above-ground facilities. The Litermont Legends Trail also begins at the same location.
Bunker 766 in the Beckingen Bunker Museum serves as a documentation centre for the Westwall. The Beckingen Valley Views Trail conveys Beckingen’s cultural and industrial history along a short route associated with the Karcher family.
Nature
The Wolferskopf nature reserve covers 337 hectares. Beckingen’s landscape is characterised by extensive forests and partly untouched nature.
The Panorama High-Level Trail crosses the Muschelkalk plateau around Merchingen from Saarfels to Hargarten and offers scenic views. The Litermont Legends Trail runs through forests, fields, meadows and cattle pastures, over bridges and through deep gorges.
Cycling and Hiking Trails
For recreational cycling, Beckingen offers the Saar-Lückner Loop, the Saar Family Loop and the E-Velo routes.
The SaarGarten’s network of paths connects hikers, cyclists and runners via the adjacent towpath with further Saar routes.
Getting There
Beckingen is served by the Saarbrücken–Trier railway line and has a landing stage for boats. From the landing stage, visitors can access the SaarGarten, the football golf course, cycling and hiking trails, and the Old Beckingen Railway Station.
