Nature and hiking
The Dhrontal-Wackentour leads through sessile oak forests on shallow soils along steep slopes. It offers panoramic views over the Dhrontal valley and the Hunsrück landscape towards the Erbeskopf and includes natural stream habitats. The route also features impressive rock formations as well as sunlit silicate rocks and their vegetation.
The tour can be started at the village square in Gräfendhron; the distance between the community centre and the hiking trail is approximately 250 metres. There is no direct connection to local public transport for the Dhrontal-Wackentour. Due to several uphill and downhill sections, it is classified as moderate to difficult.
History and buildings
Gräfendhron is located on the Roman Ausonius Road and was first documented on 3 May 1255. The Catholic chapel in the centre of Gräfendhron was completed in 1785. On the main road stands a two-arched rubble-stone structure dating from the 18th or 19th century.
The Catholic branch church at Kapellenstraße 1, which is listed as a historic monument, is a small stucco building dating from 1785. The former mill at Im Dhrontal 4 is recorded as a linear farmstead bearing the year 1872.
