Nature
The existing Alter Rhein, Jenneckes Gatt, Niepgraben nature reserve is located in Rheinberg. The Alter Rhein section of this protected area is a breeding, resting and wintering ground for several bird species, including the kingfisher, goosander, wigeon, pochard, reed warbler and nightingale.
TerraZoo Rheinberg is home to around 400 reptiles, amphibians, arthropods and fish. TerraZoo also offers guided tours and an extensive educational program aimed particularly at children and young people.
Hiking
The NiederrheinWeg incorporates Rheinberg into a 125-kilometer circular route connecting eight town halls. The starting and ending points of its stages are connected to public transport. The route is completed in nine stages of approximately 14 to 16 kilometers each.
Culture and History
A Gothic town hall stands in the area around the market square. The history of St. Peter's parish church dates back to the 12th century. A memorial plaque on Maria-Kann-Weg commemorates the life and work of the person after whom the street is named.
The Alte Kellnerei, dating from 1573, is the only surviving evidence of the former electoral palace. The customs/powder tower in Rheinberg dates from 1293. A local history presentation is also associated with Rheinberg.
Rheinberg offers guided tours focusing on the history of the former customs and fortress town.
