Culture

For centuries, the Upper Castle was the residence of the Nassau rulers. Since 1905, it has housed the Siegerlandmuseum for art and regional history. Its collection on economic history contains evidence of the region's mining and iron-processing traditions. The Rubens Gallery contains nine original paintings by Peter Paul Rubens; the Orange Hall contains portraits of the ruling family.

The Around the Crown tour brings nearly 900 years of Siegen's history in the historic center to life and includes a visit to the historic princely crypt in the Lower Castle. The Hainer Stollen tunnel extends for approximately 720 meters beneath the Siegberg. At the show mine, expert-guided tours convey the history of mining.

Nature

A walk through the surrounding castle park highlights several aspects of Siegen's history. Its diversity of plants makes the castle park a worthwhile destination for an excursion at any time of year. At the Historic Wildlife Park, three circular routes lead past mature trees, the Hermelsbach stream, and interactive stations.

The children's rally A Mine at Great Heights lasts approximately two hours and explores 800 years of Siegen's history through puzzles.

The footpath from Siegen Central Station to the upper town follows Bahnhofstraße and leads via the Cologne Gate and Cologne Street.
