History
Kreuztal’s development was strongly shaped by the railway. The Ruhr-Sieg Railway opened in 1861; between 1880 and 1888, the Erndtebrück-Laasphe-Marburg branch line followed, making Kreuztal a railway junction.
The present-day Kreuztal district developed from the former municipality of Ernsdorf, which was first recorded in 1417/18. Kreuztal’s industrial heritage includes the Kreuztal Rolling Mill Association, founded in 1837. The association’s works began operating three years later and formed the origin of Kreuztal’s industry.

Kreuztal has a wide range of sports facilities and is considered the sports city of the Siegerland region.
