Marl: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture

Guided tours on foot and by bicycle focus on historical features and unusual aspects of the city. A guided city tour in the centre leads to the town hall, the Sculpture Museum and the Grimme Institute; the same city tour also highlights the stone circle known as “Marler Stonehenge”.

History

The Scharoun School in Marl was built by Hans Scharoun between 1964 and 1968 and has been a listed monument since 2004.

The Town and Local History Museum is housed in a former water mill in Volkspark; the mill is a technical monument dating from the mid-17th century. The museum documents Marl’s history from natural history, economic, social history and ethnological perspectives. The historic mill building presents the early industrial and craft history, and a fully functional water mill installation has been preserved in the museum. The museum also includes a reconstruction of a shield-support system from the Auguste Victoria colliery.

Nature

The Weierbach flows through Volkspark. The gate.ruhr forest cycle path is a paved, 3.5-metre-wide shared pedestrian and cycle path through a wooded area. It connects Drewer-Nord and Hüls with Marl-Hamm and Sickingmühle.

The Römer-Lippe Route runs through the north of Marl and invites cyclists to explore the landscapes around Marl. In Marl-Hüls, the NaturFreunde tradition goes back to a local group founded in 1926 and re-established in 1953. Through voluntary work, the NaturFreunde group in Sickingmühle created a public swimming pool on the Lippe.
