More than 300 kilometers of signposted hiking trails lead through Finnentrop’s hills and valleys. The municipality can be reached by car and train and combines experiences in nature with a diverse cultural and railway history.

Hiking

The Finnentrop circular hiking trail is approximately 90 kilometers long. In addition, 23 varied kilometers of the Sauerland Höhenflug run through Finnentrop. Both trails can be hiked in sections and combined with SGV long-distance hiking trails to create individual loops. Nature

The section of the Sauerland Höhenflug in Finnentrop offers elevated viewpoints and direct contact with nature. In summer, the bat tunnel in Finnentrop offers a visitor experience and serves as a retreat for bats in winter.

Culture

Several districts of Finnentrop are home to regional farmhouses with decorated gables dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. Ahausen Castle is a rural manor house from the 17th or 18th century, built on the foundations of a moated castle from the 14th century. Bamenohl House is a Baroque manor house that developed from a moated castle; a tower was added in 1870. Lenhausen Castle originated as a 14th-century moated castle and was expanded into a palace complex in the 17th century.

The Church of the Assumption of Mary in Schönholthausen is an 18th-century hall church with a Romanesque west tower and rich Baroque furnishings. The Church of St. Anthony the Hermit in Heggen was built in 1900 and preserves a Romanesque chapel in its front section. The old railway bridge in Lenhausen was built between 1859 and 1861 and is designated as a sight of interest.

Cycling

Just outside Lenhausen, a former railway line provides access to the SauerlandRadring, which forms an approximately 83-kilometer cycling loop through the Fretter Valley. In the wider regional area, the SauerlandRadring is an approximately 84-kilometer loop along disused railway lines, connecting Finnentrop with Lennestadt, Schmallenberg, and Eslohe. Railway history is preserved along the ring through surviving signals, buffer stops, carriages, and a restored steam locomotive.
