Marienheide’s pilgrimage tradition dates back to 1420: At that time, the hermit Heinrich brought a miraculous image of the Virgin Mary to the future site of the town. The pilgrimage octave attracts many hundreds of pilgrims to Marienheide at the beginning of July. As early as 1421, no more than twelve Dominican monks settled in Marienheide to look after the devotional image and the pilgrims.
Cycling Routes
The Water Quintet Cycle Route connects Marienheide with Hückeswagen, Radevormwald, and Wipperfürth. The Marienheide–Hückeswagen section is described as family-friendly because of its gentle incline.
