The D(T)orfmuseum presents the history of peat work, from peat cutting to industrial extraction. In Gescher-Hochmoor, it also presents the history of the raised bog settlement. The museum also covers the former Weiße Venn, once Westphalia’s largest raised bog, including its diverse animal and plant life.

Nature and Activities

Parts of the Berkel floodplain are designated as an FFH nature reserve. Gescher’s town park offers a climbing treehouse, slides, a water park and a skate park. The Gescher History Trail runs through the town park.

Getting Around Gescher

Visitors can rent an e-scooter or an e-tandem from Stadtmarketing Gescher. Gescher also offers six cycling excursions along the Berkel and the Slinge.
