Ückeritz between the Achterwasser and the Baltic Sea

A beach and coastline with a character of their own

The beach in Ückeritz is about seven kilometres long, with fine sand and a gentle slope towards the sea. The coastline alternates between steep and gently sloping sections, with shady beech forests lining the beach. These varied coastal forms make the beach more than just a long stretch of sand: you can look out for the contrast between open beach sections and wooded coastline. At the steep coast, a long wooden staircase leads down to the beach and opens up a view of the Baltic Sea.

The Wockninsee nature trail starts at Seebad Ückeritz station and runs for about three kilometres through the Wockninsee nature reserve. Information boards introduce visitors to the area’s flora and fauna. Along the way, you cross the Aalgrabe on a small bridge, a moorland channel between Wockninsee and the Achterwasser. The trail thus combines a specific route with insights into the nature of the protected area.

The Boden Erlebnis Pfad (Soil Discovery Trail) has a different focus. It begins right at the Usedom Geological Garden and runs for 1.5 kilometres through the world of soils. The Ückeritz sports boat harbour lies on the Achterwasser. Windsport Usedom offers sailing, windsurfing and stand-up paddleboarding lessons in Ückeritz. There are several ways to get out on the water: take a lesson, go on an outing with hired equipment or watch the boats in the harbour. Every autumn, an exhibition at the Haus des Gastes commemorates the Usedom painters. In the warmer months, concerts and various events take place on the waterfront promenade, including Whitsun celebrations and a summer carnival.
