Mönkebude lies on the Szczecin Lagoon and on the northeastern edge of the approximately 125 km², heavily wooded “Haffküste” landscape conservation area. This location offers two different starting points for a holiday: the lagoon, with opportunities for water sports and observing nature, and the coastal landscape, which also features in the Mönkebude dike run. The run along the picturesque coast has been popular for years.

Those who enjoy outdoor activities will also find a range of guided excursions. These include herb walks with the Kräuterlieschen and night walks for children with foresters in the Mönkebude forest. The Mönkebude Tourist Information Office provides information about a Nordic fitness park and lends out walking poles. Alongside activities on the water, there are therefore specific suggestions for exercise and observing nature. Which ones suit your holiday depends on whether you would rather experience the lagoon, run along the coast or take part in one of the walks mentioned.

Local history and church

The Fischerstube local history museum is dedicated to the history of Mönkebude and its development into a seaside resort. It uses facts and photographs to show different stages in the village’s history. Mönkebude was first mentioned in 1244 as an old Slavic settlement under the name “Doblowitz”. For families looking for a historical perspective on their holiday destination alongside other activities, the museum offers a distinct way to explore the village’s past.

Another cultural destination is St. Peter’s Church. It was built in 1933–1934 to a design by the architect Rudolf Sack from Stettin. Together with the Fischerstube, it offers a different perspective on Mönkebude than excursions to the lagoon or coast: here, the focus is on local history and a specific building.

Getting here and choosing a holiday destination

You can also take the journey into account when planning your holiday. Trains between Berlin and Stralsund stop several times a day in Ducherow and Pasewalk. From Pasewalk, there is a connection to Ueckermünde; from there, Mönkebude can be reached by local public transport or taxi. If you are travelling by bicycle, the “Ghost” Zeesen boat is another special feature: it is intended to operate as a ferry to and from Usedom for cyclists and cycling groups. Mönkebude is the departure and arrival port; Usedom (Ostklüne) can be arranged as the departure port.

If you are travelling with children, the night walk specifically offered for children is one concrete activity to include in your plans. If you are travelling by bicycle, the planned ferry service to and from Usedom may be a consideration. This can help you decide what you would like to focus on during your stay, without requiring every day of your holiday to follow the same theme.
