Well-preserved spa architecture shapes the townscape. Historic white villas with ornate balconies reflect the charm of the turn of the 20th century. Prora, a district of Binz, offers a different perspective on the area’s architecture and history. The Prora Documentation Centre is a museum housed in a listed building. It examines the social-historical effects of Nazi concepts of leisure and holidays and explains the site’s history and significance. Beach, Promenade and Waterside Activities

Fine sandy beaches stretch for several kilometres along Binz Bay. The accessible beach promenade has been extended by around 890 metres to Prora’s 76th beach access point. At activity beach sections in Binz and Prora, guided yoga and beach exercise sessions are offered in the mornings; there are also watersports centres for activities with surfboards and stand-up paddleboards. This gives you a choice between exercising on the beach and enjoying watersports during your days by the sea.

Every year at the summer solstice, PierSession transforms the beach beside the pier into a beach club with electronic and live music. Excursion boats also depart from the pier for trips towards the chalk cliffs. These offer different ways to enjoy the water: a music event on the beach and a boat trip along the coast.

Hiking and Nature Around Binz

Binz is nestled within the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve. A hike from Fischerstrand follows the cliff-top trail through the Granitz towards Sellin, with numerous views of the bay and the Baltic Sea along the way. Another hike starts at the Klünderberg car park and runs through the Granitz and the biosphere reserve to Sellin, stopping at Granitz Hunting Lodge on the 106-metre-high Tempelberg. These trails offer different starting points, destinations and views along the way.

A hike starting from the promenade at Lake Schmachter also heads in a different direction: the “To the Rügen Natural Heritage Centre” trail runs north through the Fangerien woodland. The Rügen Natural Heritage Centre in Prora has a treetop walk. Binz Spa Park covers 1.5 hectares and offers a place beneath old trees to relax, exercise and play. Both add to your seaside excursions with experiences in town, without requiring a full day at the beach or on a hiking trail.

Binz is accessible by train, with IC and ICE connections from across Germany to the seaside resort. Bus routes run daily between Binz and Prora, serving various stops. The buses run approximately from 5:00 a.m. to 11:50 p.m., in some cases every half hour. If you’d like to include Prora in your trip, train connections to Binz and bus services between the two places are useful points of reference.
