Zierow lies right on Wismar Bay and has an approximately two-kilometre stretch of Baltic Sea coastline at Eggers Wiek. Alongside the coast, hiking and cycling trails and glimpses into the village’s history help shape the area. You can choose different focuses for your trip: time at the natural beach, a hike along the European long-distance footpath E9, or a cycle ride towards Wismar or Boltenhagen.
Beach and Coast
Zierow’s natural beach has a gently sloping access to the water and a large beach playground. Swimming and playing are therefore among the specific options for a day at the beach. If you are travelling with children, you can take both features into account when planning your holiday; they describe different aspects of a beach visit, without requiring you to choose just one activity. The stretch of coast at Eggers Wiek also gives Zierow a clear connection to the Baltic Sea.
Hiking the E9
The European long-distance footpath E9 passes through Zierow and leads from here in two specified directions. One route runs via Hohen Wieschendorf to Boltenhagen. Another follows Eggers Wiek via Hoben to Wismar. When planning, you can use these routes to decide which destination you would like to reach on foot. The two descriptions indicate different routes and destinations; no walking time or route distance is specified.
Cycling to Wismar or Boltenhagen
Two destinations and their distances are also given for cyclists. From Zierow, the Baltic Sea Cycle Route takes you to the Hanseatic city of Wismar, about 7 km away; the Baltic Sea resort of Boltenhagen is 18 km away. This allows you to take the different distances into account when planning your day. Besides choosing a destination, there is a practical point of reference at Zierow beach for e-bikes and pedelecs: a “Charge4Bike” charging station is located beside the DLRG lifeguard tower during the summer months. Up to four e-bikes and pedelecs can be charged there at the same time.
Village Centre and History
The manor house forms the centre of Zierow. The tourist information office and community centre are also in the village centre. Visitors can find information there about the village, its surroundings and the Northwest Mecklenburg region. All rooms and facilities of the tourist information office and community centre available to visitors have step-free access. This information can be useful if you would like to learn more about the village and its surroundings during your stay.
The small village museum is dedicated to the history of the municipality of Zierow. Information about the exhibits is provided in writing.
