Krusenhagen: Easter Play, Manor House and Equestrian Sports

Krusenhagen combines the history of the Redentin Easter Play with a listed manor house and a strong equestrian focus. Hof Redentin is located a few kilometres north of Wismar and belongs to the municipality of Krusenhagen. The Redentin Easter Play and its history

In the 14th century, Redentin belonged to the Cistercian monastery of Doberan. This connection also shapes the history of the Redentin Easter Play: in 1463, the Cistercian monk Peter Kalff wrote the Low German play at Hof Redentin near Wismar, which belonged to Doberan Abbey at the time. The play has survived only in a manuscript from 1464, probably a copy of the original, made in Redentin. The manuscript contains 2,025 verses of the Comoedia de Christi passione et resurrectione.

The dates refer to different events: 1463 is the year Kalff wrote the play; the surviving manuscript is dated 1464. The manor house and listed barn

The listed manor house at Hof Redentin preserves historic details such as a wooden staircase to the upper floor and double-leaf doors. Its current form probably dates to around 1850; the building was repeatedly altered until the 1920s. It is located at Redentiner Landstraße 35 and 37. The Ostsee Trophy takes place every year at Hof Redentin; in 2026, it was held for the fourth time. Alongside equestrian sports, it includes a traders’ avenue and food and drink. Family activities include pony rides, a petting zoo, a bouncy castle, a bungee trampoline and a hobby-horse course.
