At each one, a hidden gemstone and a letter board are woven into a puzzle story. This gives the trail an ongoing discovery challenge to follow together, in addition to its forest setting. One station introduces wolves, red foxes, wild boars, red deer, roe deer and Eurasian jays; visitors can discover animal tracks there and imitate the animals.

The nature discovery trail also includes the extensions “Puzzle Animals,” about 860 metres long, and “Forest Eye,” about 800 metres long. The distances are deliberately given as approximate. Boatbuilding and the JOHANNA

Fuhlendorf’s maritime history has several distinct chapters. Between 1871 and 1914, 40 sailing boats were built in Fuhlendorf and 12 in Michaelsdorf. The Dornquast boatyard was located on Hafenstraße in Fuhlendorf from 1885 until the early 1950s. Separately, the shipwreck JOHANNA tells the story of a single vessel: a steel mizzen barge, also known as a sailing barge, with a wooden bottom, built in 1899 by D. W. Kremer in Elmshorn. The JOHANNA is 19.04 metres long, 4.77 metres wide and has a registered tonnage of 38.00 GRT.

A public path through a boggy Bodden coastal woodland leads to the Bodden and offers a close-up view of the JOHANNA. This makes it possible to connect maritime history with a walk through the landscape, without conflating the ship’s history with that of the local boatyard. The non-profit cultural association K-Drei e.V. Fuhlendorf also adds a cultural dimension: founded in 2018 on the southern Bodden coast in the municipality of Fuhlendorf, it focuses on cinema, art and communication. Its members include cultural professionals and people interested in culture from Fuhlendorf, Bodstedt, the surrounding region and Berlin.

The Southern Bodden Coast Tourist Information Centre in Fuhlendorf sells tickets for village tours, guided excursions and events in the municipalities.
