Guided tours focus on rural life and agriculture in the past; advance booking is required. Alt Schwerin lies directly between the lakes and is bordered by Lake Plau to the south and southwest. Many cycling and hiking trails pass through the area. The geological garden on Ortkrug is a destination in its own right. From Alt Schwerin, follow the route towards the AGRONEUM over the A19 bridge and along Fischweg. The front area illustrates the rock cycle and the three main rock groups. Village History and Excursions in the Municipality
The brick-built Dorfkirche Alt Schwerin is also one of the village’s historic sights. It probably dates from the 14th century and received a half-timbered tower in 1732. The island of Werder is also part of the municipality of Alt Schwerin. Visitors can explore the lake district on an excursion boat from there. The Moorochse observation tower is a tourist attraction on the north shore of Lake Plau in the Nossentiner-Schwinzer Heide Nature Park.
Bus route 77, which runs daily between the island town of Malchow and Parchim, is one option for travelling to the AGRONEUM. The bus stop is right next to the harvesters’ barracks; from there, it is a 200 m walk to the main entrance.
