Village Church and Local History
Pragsdorf’s church received a new tower superstructure and a new roof structure in 1761. The interior was also modernised to suit the period and included a pulpit altar. The year 1761 gives the church a specific historical connection: this change is part of its history, alongside the building itself. If you are interested in older churches and their furnishings, you can keep this aspect in mind while exploring Pragsdorf.
The documented local history also goes back a long way. Pragsdorf had always been owned by the von Helpte family and was first mentioned in official records in 1381 as “Prawestrop”. A memorial stone in Pragsdorf commemorates Alexander von Bülow, who was Mecklenburg’s chief forestry officer from 1934 to 1943. This adds a connection to a figure from Mecklenburg’s forestry administration alongside the history of the church.
Another destination for anyone interested in historic buildings is the Bannenbrück forester’s house: it is an old forester’s homestead in an idyllic setting. Together with the village church and the memorial stone, it offers various reasons to explore the area’s history rather than focusing the entire stay on activities by the water.
Haussee, Park and Festivals
The park by Haussee is a worthwhile destination for an excursion. Haussee and the adjacent park are also the venue for the annual Park and Lake Festival. The municipality’s annual sports festival is held there too. Both festivals centre on the same venue but have different focuses: the Park and Lake Festival is associated with Haussee and the park, while the sports festival centres on sporting activities.
If you would like to include a festival in your stay, your travel dates matter. The festivals take place annually, so specific dates need to be checked as part of your individual planning. Regardless, the park can be considered a destination in its own right. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can therefore weigh up whether the events are important to you or whether you would rather discover Pragsdorf for its history and surroundings.
Swimming, Fishing and Volleyball
Locals and visitors enjoy swimming and fishing at the lakes near Pragsdorf. These two activities offer different ways to spend time by the water: you can plan a day of swimming or make fishing the main focus. Koppelsee near Pragsdorf is also a good place for swimming and additionally has a volleyball court. This lake therefore combines swimming and sporting opportunities at a specific destination.
This makes it possible for families whose holiday interests do not always align to choose between different themes: local history, a festival at Haussee, swimming, fishing or volleyball.
