Meesiger lies right on the shore of Lake Kummerow. The water and landscape give the village a distinctive character; there are also opportunities for cycling, hiking and a cultural excursion. If you are looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Meesiger, you can consider which of these aspects you want to shape your holiday: time by the lake, outdoor activities or an interest in the village’s history.

Lake, shore and excursions

Lake Kummerow is one of the fish-richest bodies of water. You can go hiking along the Seeberge hills. The lake offers surfers favourable wind conditions and plenty of space for their sport. You can also plan a longer ride: Lake Kummerow can be circumnavigated on a route of about 45 km. At Aalbude near Verchen, you can take the ferry across the Peene.

A nature trail runs between Gravelotte and Verchen. It is about 3.5 km long and provides information about the local flora and fauna. If you are out with children and want to explore nature together, this offers a specific opportunity. The stated distance makes it easier to fit the excursion into your day’s plans, without implying a particular walking time.

Meesiger-Gravelotte has a well-developed cycling network with signposted cycle routes. The Ice Age Route offers a different perspective on the landscape: the section from Malchin to Meesiger provides a good view of the terminal moraine on the western shore of Lake Kummerow. This brings together a range of themes—the nature around the lake, the history of the landscape and finding your way around the cycling network.

Gravelotte: beach and harbour

Gravelotte campsite has a natural beach on Lake Kummerow with a large sunbathing lawn. There is also a designated bathing beach for dogs. The campsite covers four hectares and is not divided into pitches; it offers 120 pitches.

At Gravelotte’s bathing beach, Zuckerfee serves soft-serve ice cream, crêpes, candy floss and coffee. You can combine a sweet snack on an outing with time at the beach. If you are travelling by boat, keep one specific rule in mind: boats mooring at the Gravelotte waterway rest area must report to the harbourmaster immediately after mooring. This also applies to short-stay visitors who only intend to moor for an hour.

A glimpse into local history

Meesiger Church also tells of a time different from the activities on the water. Farmers from Meesiger built it as a fortified church after the Thirty Years’ War. This adds a historical perspective to the nature and leisure activities, which you can take into account when considering your interests during your stay.

You can choose accommodation in Meesiger to suit the balance you want between the lake, nature and local history.
