At its heart are the Ivenacker Oaks: on 2 July 2025, the Methuselah Oak, which is almost a thousand years old, became the 50th tree to be added to Germany’s National Heritage Trees list. The area also includes the Ivenacker Tiergarten, the lake and an almost completely preserved Baroque palace complex. Ancient Oaks, Wildlife Park and Lake
The Ivenacker Tiergarten is Germany’s first National Natural Monument. It includes a wood pasture and five thousand-year-old oaks. At the Ivenacker Oaks, you can observe fallow deer, wild horses and wild boar at close range. Nature enthusiasts can explore the area at their own pace or arrange a guided tour with forest educators. The visitor facilities also include a nature trail.
A striking landmark is the 40-metre-high observation platform. It is accessible by lift and offers panoramic views over the treetops of the ancient oaks and Ivenacker Lake. The treetop path is 620 metres long. This means you can experience the Ivenacker Oaks in different ways: with a walk through the natural surroundings or from above.
Ivenacker Lake is about 1,180 metres long and 550 metres wide, with a surface area of around 97 hectares. The natural circular path around the lake is about 5.5 kilometres long. It leads through the palace park, woods and fields, as well as the Ivenacker Oaks and wildlife park area. The route thus brings together different landscape features in a single circuit. If you prefer to focus on one particular experience, you can make the nature trail or the view from the platform your priority.
Palace Park and Baroque History
Ivenack’s cultural history is also reflected in a cohesive palace complex. The palace, stables, orangery, tea house, church and park have all been preserved. Around 1800, the Baroque palace park was redesigned as an English landscape garden; its grounds extend among the thousand-year-old oaks. A walk through the palace park lets you explore all parts of the palace ensemble.
The former monastery church in Ivenack dates back to the 13th century. It offers a different historical perspective from the Baroque complex. If you are interested in architecture and history, you can visit the church alongside the other parts of the ensemble. The visitor facilities at the Ivenacker Oaks also include an exhibition in the Baroque pavilion.
