Discovering nature here is therefore not just about exploring plants and animals, but also about making sounds yourself. The discovery trail, in turn, focuses on informative displays. It runs along the paved promenade and features larger-than-life models of Baltic Sea animals and plants. Illustrated information boards explain their ways of life and distinctive features. Visitors can therefore explore in different ways: through interactive stations, making sounds, and learning about Baltic Sea wildlife.
Local history and culture
The Graal-Müritz local history museum focuses on the history and culture of the town. Topics include its founding, the living and working conditions of its residents, and the development of the spa trade. It also covers storm surges that destroyed three piers in the town. Anyone who would like to learn more about the past of this holiday destination can add these topics to their travel plans.
The museum also honours several artists who spent their summers in Graal-Müritz: the painter and writer Professor Müller-Kaempf and Professor Karl Rettich, as well as Lyonel Feininger, Hans Fallada, Franz Kafka and Erich Kästner. In this way, the museum connects local history with the lives of these figures. The Rhododendron Park adds another distinctive feature to the town’s cultural character: it has been a listed heritage site since December 1986. Readings and concerts take place in its concert pavilion.
