Siedlung am Krummen Winkel is one of Düshorn’s settlements established after the Second World War. The settlement structure is open and partly fragmented: fields, meadows and forests extend into the built-up area. Anyone looking for a holiday apartment will find a starting point here for a variety of holiday activities – from walks and cycle tours to regional history, heathland culture and a day at the lido.

Forests, heathland and trails in the surrounding area

In the immediate vicinity, the Hohe Heide lies southeast of Düshorn, while the Beetenbusch is located to the southwest. The landscape also includes the Wedden, with a wetland biotope and a large orchard meadow, as well as a woodland area within the village near the church. These different landscape areas give the region its distinctive mix of forest, open spaces and village structures.

For a longer hike, the 13-kilometre Düshorn D3 circular trail is a good option. It leads from Düshorn via Krusenhausen and Krelingen and along the Alten Celler Weg back to Düshorn. The trail also leads to an access point for the Krelinger Steingrab, which is regarded as evidence of the region’s early settlement. The 15-kilometre D4 circular trail runs via Krelingen, Bockhorn and Bad Fallingbostel-Süd back to Düshorn. The D5 circular trail passes through fields and forest before reaching Meinerdingen and Rödershöfen.

Another hiking trail around the Krelinger Heide leads through the heathland. Juniper bushes and typical heather shape the landscape; from mid-August to September, the heathland blooms purple. In the wider regional area around Siedlung am Krummen Winkel, Schneverdingen has six Nordic walking routes certified by the German Ski Association. They are well signposted, 40 kilometres long in total, and range from 3.5 to 10 kilometres in length. The routes pass through the heathlands of Höpen and Osterheide.

History, village culture and special places

Düshorn offers several points of interest for culturally minded excursions. The earliest reference to the Düshorn parish can be found in the Lüneburg feudal register of 1021. The church in Düshorn contains a baptismal angel dating from around 1730. The Düshorn village museum presents the historical development of the population in the Lüneburg Heath.

At the Krelinger Heide stands a historic thatched building from the 19th century, which was moved here from Ebbingen. Also located there is the reconstructed bee fence, regarded as one of the last cultural witnesses to traditional basket beekeeping in northern Germany. Burial mounds are signposted in the Uhlenbusch. In late summer, the Krelingen village community association organises the annual “Singing in the Krelinger Heide”. At Christmas, a reading of the Christmas story with music and a nativity play takes place in the sheep shed at the Krelinger Heide.

Water, cycling and regional excursions

Düshorn lido has a 200-metre-long fine sandy bathing beach. The extensive body of water is suitable for longer swimming distances. From Düshorn, the lido can be reached by bicycle or on foot. Anyone who would rather combine several places and sights can include the Heidmark Route as a regional cycle route in their plans; it complements the Leine-Heide Cycle Route. The varied area around Düshorn is ideal for hiking and cycling.
